El Refectorio is a Spanish-language podcast offering complete, unhurried readings of the great books of the Christian tradition, one work at a time. The name recalls the monastic refectory, where a community ate in silence while a single voice read aloud. The first season is devoted to the four women Doctors of the Church — Teresa of Ávila, Catherine of Siena, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Hildegard of Bingen — opening with Teresa's Las Moradas, adapted from sixteenth-century Castilian, and continuing with Hildegard's Liber Divinorum Operum, in an original translation from the Latin of Migne. Each episode takes a chapter or section, on a principle that preserves the theological substance of the original while making it fully clear to the ear.
